TRANCHE DE CAKE

This piece saw a young Philippe Decouflé, and four other dancers, take their first steps ? already immaculately prepared ? in the public arena. In Tranche de Cake, the emerging Decouflé pays tribute to The Nicholas Brothers, tap dancing maestros who used to perform in the Cotton Club in New York in the 1930s. And indeed, these bodies are mythical,  so agile and expressive as to escape the confines of normal human movement. For 45 minutes, the virtuosity of movement becomes real on the stage.
