PERFORMANCE

OCTOPUS

Extracts from the back catalog: jalousie, shiva pas, hélas tique, boîte noire, squelettes, l'argothique, talons aiguilles, boléro... and other choreographic poems.

A sprawling creature, Octopus moves here, there and everywhere. Gestures and voices form this complete performance featuring eight dancers and two musicians, performed to live music by times somber and by times crystalline (Nosfell). Octopus is a sequence of scenes, variations on the theme of the beauty of these dancing bodies, constantly metamorphosing into something else. They are sensual, baroque or burlesque. They inveigle us along a merry path of mirror play, half dark, half bright. Optical games where the silhouettes of the dancers fragment.

“Our friend and decorator Jean-Pierre Verbraeken died on April 7, 2011, leaving behind him a plethora of special effects, mechanisms, flying devices and accessories for the Compagnie DCA performances, from Codex (1986) to Octopus (2010). These shows are dedicated to his memory”.

Philippe Decouflé unleashes a series of hybrid, subtly disillusioned creatures. A magnificent return to the stage.
Télérama, 12/01/2011

An interplay of limbs fragmented by low-angled light, a skin-grazing duet enhanced by the combination of black and white, no aspect is left unexplored in a one-and-a-half-hour celebration of buttocks, breasts, tongues.
Les Inrocks, 27/10/2010

Decouflé never rejects a good idea, however short-lived, so long as it has visual worth. (...) The result of this irrepressible indulgence is an assumed tendency towards a flourish of spectacular punctuation marks that disappear no sooner than they are formed.
Le Monde, 14/10/2010

He (Philippe Decouflé) also gives his slant on Ravel's Boléro reinterpreted by Labyala Nosfell and Pierre le Bourgeois, who form an integral part of the performance together with an uncompromising, but in no way cacophonous score.
