IRIS: The secret story of Iris can be traced to a discovery of Chinese medicine and its mapping of the human body. Each dancer is an organ associated with the color, sound, vibration... This anatomical course combines dance, video and live music as it reinvents our perception of the body. Maybe Iris is about perception, about our way of looking at others, to get to explore the other's otherness and put it squarely on stage. The piece brought together 12 dancers, French, Chinese and Japanese on the same stage as they invented a new language.
IIRIS: This new episode of an unfinished series, IIRIS, pronounced as “two irises”, continues on from the unique I : IRIS, as Philippe Decouflé continues along the route of a “pell-mell fantasy into an austere world”. Consisting in a number of tableaux, the piece proceeds without the shackles of a narrative line, located inside a former Japanese interior or a street open to outside glances. We have flashes, between bodies and their representations. We have a frantic sword dance, as Philippe Decouflé skitters off on the search for harmony. Following in the footsteps of Chinese medicine, the harmonious balance could be anatomical and even organic. But all is on the dance stage.
